"Tom" Obituary (1951 - 2024) - Independence, WV

Thomas "Tom" Gregory Jones of Independence, WV passed away peacefully during the snowy morning of Saturday, February 17, 2024 with his kids beside him. He fought a long battle with his leg. Tom was born in Ironton, OH to Mary and George Jones who preceded him in death. He was the oldest brother of three sons. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and was a jack of all trades. He was in the United States Marine Corps. Tom did construction, carpentry, electrical work, and was a UMWA coal miner. He was a wonderful cook and baker, loved hosting company, enjoyed traveling, was an avid hunter, loved God and his family and friends. He enjoyed socializing with his best friend at the Moose Lodge and sharing his humor with everyone he met. He was generous and enjoyed helping others. He was a member of the Nazarene church. He spent many years helping at the soup kitchen. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer; his son, Thomas "Greg" Gregory Jones, II and wife, Lauren; and grandson, Carter and granddaughter, Breauna. We are thankful for the superb care given by Mon General's emergency room and step-down units as well as the Morgantown Hospice team. At his request, Tom has been cremated. Friends may join the family to honor Tom's life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Westover / Morgantown on Friday, February 23rd, 2024 from 5:00 PM until the time of the memorial service at 7:00 PM.
