It all started 120 years ago when H.A. Davidson Funeral Home opened and operated his funeral home on University Avenue in the downtown area of Morgantown. Davidson’s ran their funeral home and ambulance service until the mid 1960’s, with a great reputation for impeccable service and attention to detail.
In the late 1950’s, Vincent Mancinelli and his wife Agnes began to operate a funeral home on the corner of Spruce and Pleasant Streets and remained there until 1964, when they purchased the Davidson Funeral Home, thus forming the Davidson-Mancinelli Funeral Home which operated from the University Avenue location until the mid 1970’s. Vincent and Agnes then decided to relocate their business just across the river to 108 Holland Avenue, where they operated until their retirement in 2004. The Mancinelli’s made the decision to sell their business to James G. Lobb and A. Craig Rotruck, who operated the Rotruck-Lobb Mancinelli Chapel from the same location until July of 2015.
July 1, 2015 marked the opening of Smith Funeral & Cremation Care by Jason & Cathy Smith. Their approach to funeral service might be a little different than what you would expect. The building immediately gives you the sense of a home-like feel. Here, you’ll not find the “same old, same old” – rather a place of comfort and solace where everyone is welcome by our family and staff with open arms. What we hear more than anything is, “this doesn’t feel like a funeral home at all!” You’re a guest in our home, and you are treated as such.
Our home has undergone extensive renovations, including a brand new look to the exterior of the building, re-design of our grounds’ landscaping, all new interior furniture and lighting, remodeling of restrooms and the main entryway, the addition of a children’s playroom, re-design of our family lounge, a brand-new state of the art sound system, and multi-media capabilities, and new signage – just to name a few.

No family is ever turned away because of finances. Our family makes sure that everyone, regardless of finances, is given the same dignified and thoughtful services that we would expect for ourselves. With that being said, we will always treat you with respect and dignity, and work within your budget to deliver a service that allows you to best honor the life and legacy of your loved one.
